I went to Prince Caspian with my friends on Friday. It was an excellent showing for opening night, we had to sit at the very top of one of the largest theatres in town, and it was a full house.

I must say that I can’t recall the book, so the movie may stray from the original and I wouldn’t notice. I did think that it was a good movie though. Honestly, I was surprised that it was only rated PG… for a children’s movie it was very violent, and I think it would have scared young children. Since I’m not a small child, I enjoyed it. I especially enjoyed the cinematography used in some of the fight scenes: think Gladiator without all the blood.

The one thing the I did distinctly remember from the book was how Lucy saw Aslan, and no one would believe her. I think I related to her, in the true and honest belief that I see God at work in my life, and in the world around me, and yet there are people who will not even believe in His existence.

The one thing about this movie that is amusing is the number of movies that have come out recently with the similar themes and creatures. It was like a mix of Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter. I enjoyed the similarities to Lord of the Rings especially, since C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien were such close friends, and it brings the parallels of their stories to life, while keeping their distinctions intact.

In short: it was a great opening movie to the summer blockbuster season, and parents, go with your kids. Have fun.
