In the Amazon – April 26

Apr 26, 2009 | Blog, Travel

Today we went for a hike in the jungle. Our guide, Matthias, showed us different animals and plants. He also showed us how to start a fire in the wild, and set a trap to catch an animal to eat. It was a very long, hot hike. There are a lot of mosquitoes in the jungle and insect repellent washes off when you sweat profusely.

The first thing that we saw when we walking into the jungle was a poison dart frog, which is so poisonous that if the poison enters us, we would be permanently paralyzed and die. Exciting.

He also got tarantulas to come out of their dens, and showed us how to start a fire and set traps in the wild in case of getting lost or stranded in the Amazon. I am convinced that I would just die.
