The Large Hadron Collider, the largest particle accelerator in the world shot out its first beam today. The massive tunnels that comprise this are located straddling Switzerland and France, and cost £5 billion. But more than that, there was a wonderful article in the Boston Globe that showed some gorgeous photos of the machine.
