As we approach the Christmas season, finding ways to share the true meaning of Christmas with young children becomes especially important. Today, I’m excited to share my Christmas read-aloud of “The Living Nativity” by Helen and David Haidle, a beautiful book that brings the nativity story to life for young listeners.
About the Book
“The Living Nativity” presents the Christmas story in an interesting way through the life of Saint Francis and the Living Nativity he set up in a small village. The story is told through the eyes of a boy who has a hard life, but love animals just like Brother Francis does, and together they bring the Christmas Story to life!
Perfect for Family Devotion Time
This book is particularly wonderful for:
- Family devotions during Advent
- Sunday School lessons
- Christian preschool activities
- Christmas Eve traditions
- Teaching children ages 5-12 about Jesus’s birth
Extending the Learning
After reading, you might:
- Ask children how they would put on a Christmas Nativity.
- Which animals would they include?
- Draw pictures of their favorite part of the story
- Make simple crafts related to the nativity
- Say a family prayer thanking God for sending Jesus
