Hawai’i Big Island Vacation: June 2012 – Part 4

Jun 6, 2012 | Travel

We are enjoying our vacation: relaxing in the sunshine, swimming in the pool, and snorkeling by our hotel. We saw an eel and two sea turtles by our hotel, so even though the water is not as clear as by the Captain Cook Memorial, the wildlife made it exciting.

In the evening Josh and I drove up to the Mauna Kea Visitor’s Center for their daily stargazing. We watched the sun set, and then as it got darker, we looked through the telescopes and saw the stars and the planets. Jupiter was incredible! We could see  the rings and it looked just like the pictures of it, except we couldn’t see the color with our bare eyes. After the sky got dark, a guide used a laser pointer to show us a lot of constellations and planets. We even watch the International Space Station fly by, and several satellites.
